I push buttons on cameras (mostly on 35 mm film) since forever but only in 2004 I realized that I do this with some vague logic and creativity. I inherited the passion for photographs in the family – my father was processing in the small laboratory improvised in a 6 sqm bathroom in a time when color photos were a luxury. We still have – and I sometime even use – the old russian Zenit from that time but even my father switched to digital.

Since 2006 I began organized studies, first with prof. Dumitru Mociornita at UPA (Popular Art University) in Bucharest and after with New York Institute of Photography which I graduated in 2010. Since 2009 I am in touch with one of the currently most relevant schools in Romania, “Photographic Poetry”, coordinated by prof. Francisc Mraz and prof. Gyuri Ilinca where I proudly befriended very talented colleagues, often recognized beyond Romanian borders.

I strive to “see” different what’s around us, different enough for the viewer to be surprised – but not shocked – to bring him or her closer on what sees, not to push away through exaggerated cryptic. The realm I feel at large is the day-to-day reality where I try to catch that something that produces us reactions, feelings, sensations. I strongly believe that a good photography is a photography you linger on a while, a photography you like to see again, one that you return to from time to time to discover maybe a glimpse of something else every time. A good photography can be stolen at any street corner; you don’t have to go to the end of the world for this.

Dumitru Mociornita la UPA Dalles, apoi NYIP (New York Institute of Photography) pe care l-am absolvit in 2010.
